Orange Tracks : Long, Medium & Short

The Long Orange Track is 12.5kms or about 4 to 5 hours. This track takes you from the Awapai Quarters initially following the Blue Tracks in a north westerly direction, but then veers west to include a lovely walk through two QE11 National Trust native bush reserves.

You then ascend to a trig station at about 740m. This is the highest point on the Whana Walk and affords spectacular views, into the heart of the wild Kaweka ranges and across to the "anything but" Gentle Annie on the Napier Taihape Road and on a clear day right across to Mt Ruapehu.

You head east through "No Mans Land" and above the towering cliffs to the south.  The descent is through Karamu bush and a very picturesque stand of conifers and gums before returning to Awapai Quarters.

The Medium Orange Track is around 3 hours and takes you through the two QE II native bush reserves then returns to the Quarters without the climb to the peak.

The Short Orange Track is a gentle stroll for those wanting to take it easy but not miss out on seeing the smaller to the two QE II native bush reserves.  The stroller then retraces his or her steps back to the Quarters.
