Fishing fanatics can pursue the wily rainbow and brown trout in the wilder reaches of the Ngaruroro River and Omahaki Stream.

When you reach it, the Ngaruroro has just wound its way from between the Kawekas and Ruahines through a snaking gorge (photo to the left).

It then spreads out and drops away through another gorge before braiding and heading out between banks carpeted with vineyards and across the Heretaunga Plains.

The scenery is stunning with sheer escarpments along parts of the Ngaruroro and the Omahaki.

Anglers can follow one of our shorter walking tracks (the short blue track) from the Awapai Quarters out to the river via the Maungarakau Gorge.  The walk to the river is approximately 1 to 1 1/2 hours walk each way.

Once you have battled the fish, and won, or its beaten you, you can make your way home across country to the Quarters where you can relax in front of the open fire or in the spa.

If you have taken the catered option, we will provide you with a two course, country cuisine dinner (see Prices & Contact Us).
